| Inspired by the Holy Spirit, No! Kidding! Choir Where Kids Are Winners originated in 1985 by Janice Hopkins. This ministry, now under the Ainsworth Community Christian Association, started out as a simply response to a request by a group of 9 African-American 6-7th grade female students to help them prepare for their school's talent show. After the talent show, Janice wanted to keep working with this group. Over the next few months, what resulted was miracle of God. The girls showed a great interest to continue to meet after school; even though there was not a clear direction for this effort. But God planted a name for this group in Janice's heart, and this group became "No! Kidding! Choir." It was just about a year later when Janice's mother suggested the tag - "Where Kids Are Winners." No! Kidding! Choir continued to have scheduled rehearsals and performances. In 1989, No! Kidding! Choir performing outside of the Portland area. In 1993, the choir went on their first extended tour to Berkeley, California and the rest is history with the Fernwood School Band. In 1999 Spank Hopkins, now Janice's husband, came aboard as the music director. Over the years, NKC has evolved into a powerful ministry that teaches children about the love of God through the gospel choir experience. |
